The Asian Emerald Dove is a stocky, ground-foraging dove measuring approximately 23–27 cm, instantly recognized by its brilliant iridescent emerald-green mantle and wing-coverts. Adult males display a silvery-grey crown and nape, a prominent white supercilium and shoulder patch, a rich vinous-pink head and underparts, and a bright red bill with an orange tip. Females are slightly duller brown with less pronounced white markings and a darker crown. Extremely swift and direct in flight with whistling wingbeats, it typically keeps to dense forest undergrowth, walking stealthily across leaf litter to feed on fallen seeds and berries. In Himachal Pradesh and the western Himalayan foothills, it is a scarce to uncommon resident inhabiting dense subtropical broadleaf forests, moist ravines, and bamboo brakes up to about 1,200 meters elevation.
